WHAT WE DO: HAL AIRPORT ROAD HOME
Our residents at the HAL Airport Road Home, July 2022
Many of our residents are now gainfully employed in the service sector while some are married and supporting their own families and parents.
Bhuvaneshwari came into our home with a severe Polio related orthopedic disability when she was only five years old. Educated and empowered by the Home, today she works at IBM as Deputy Manager and proudly says, “I have been blessed because I found Cheshire Homes that gave me the most precious gift of my life – education.” That’s the transformation young girls with disabilities get at our Home.
Our Home is a ‘Home-away-from-Home’ for girls with physical disabilities and hearing impairment.
We provide the children with a nurturing environment along with the means to achieve their own goals and ultimately lead them to a better, brighter future. We see the potential in each child – real potential that’s worth investing. We believe that all children deserve to have big dreams which must be fulfilled. The Home does what it can do best, to handhold these children to reach their potential.
The Home has a capacity to house 50 residents. Presently there are 40+ in the age group of 5-25 years. They are mostly from Karnataka and neighboring states. They stay with us till they complete their higher studies and are in a position to be independent. From the beginning, the Home looks at their individual abilities, and specific interest and encourages their social interactions and skill development, thus enabling them to lead a normal life.
Be it IT companies or Hospitality Industries, Banks, and International Schools, our past residents have made their marks in such industries and are guiding lights to the future generation.
We see education as a crucial tool to overcome disability and ensure all our residents receive good education. The children attend Sheila Kothavala Institute for the Deaf, Seventh Day Adventist High School, Adarsha College, other main stream colleges and Technical Training Centre for the Deaf.
We assist children with learning difficulties and some do need extra support. To fill the gaps, for such children we provide tuition in the evening at the Home. Those that cannot pursue higher school education, due to learning disabilities, we enroll them in vocational training courses like tailoring and computer education.
We encourage the children to develop their interest in outdoor activities, sports, music, yoga and art.
A library (The Twinkle Library) supported by Nirupama Foundation, provides quiet and tranquil environs where children can come to satiate their quest for knowledge.

We encourage our children to develop different interests that would support them in their various choices they make in their life. We make use of all opportunities that allow our children to interact socially.
Regular donor and volunteer visits help the children learn appropriate social behaviour and they become independent.
Cheshire Homes, being a secular institution, celebrates all festivals at the Home, giving children a sense of understanding of the reason behind each festival.
