STORIES: SHABEEN'S STORY
Shabeen is the younger daughter of her mother a single parent. Since Shabeen was physically challenged she was put in school at Association for Physically Disabled (APD). As Shabeen’s mother worked hard in several houses as a cook and helper she could not take care of the disabled child. After completing UKG, APD referred her to Cheshire Homes. She joined the home in 1997 at the age of 7.
She did her schooling at The Seventh Day Adventist School up to 12th Standard (2nd PUC). Shabeen was a good student, hard-working, intelligent, and clever, she always came 1st or 2nd in class without any tuition.
She did B.Com at the Sir. M. Vishveshwaraya College and passed out with 1st class in 2012. She stayed at Cheshire Homes for a few months looking for a job. She got a job with INFOSYS and worked with them for 4 years till 2016. While with INFOSYS she was deputed to Pune for a month as a Trainer to train their new recruits.
She joined ANZ bank in 2017 as a Senior Analyst. She frequently receives awards for Best Performer in her department. Even in February 2020, she received an award. In her own words, Shabeen says, “My mother had to work hard to make a living, now she doesn’t work as I provide for her and she lives with me. My elder sister studied up to 8 std., was married off, is a mother of 3, and lives in Tumkur.
I owe my success to Cheshire Homes who gave me this most precious gift, an opportunity to study and groomed me into the person I am today. From my side also it was a lot of hard work and my ambition to do well that has helped me; so I always advise and motivate the younger residents living in the home to focus on studying to achieve their dreams”.
Shabeen is now married and is a mother.
