Volunteers keeping our residents engaged, June 2022

Cheshire Home depends on the support from a number of philanthropic individuals and corporates, without whose help it would be difficult to maintain the standards and quality of the Homes.

  • Our Homes run primarily on the goodwill and support of individual donors. Their support includes sponsoring meals, education and medical costs as well as tuition and gardening
  • Our Corporate donors have supported Cheshire Homes India Bangalore under different CSR initiatives and project funding
  • Our volunteers play a vital role in inspiring and training our residents. A special mention goes out to Rajendra Das, a dedicated volunteer of 10 years who was crucial in setting up Accounting systems and processes. Cheshire Homes was known for their needlework and sewing skills. Ms. Mira Pinto and Ms. Santona Das were instrumental in training the resident in needlework, embroidery and craft for many years; many ex-residents still use these skills for their livelihood. Furthermore, the Cheshire choir (who perform on Christmas eve at the Oberoi) was trained by late Ms. Sheila Philip and we appreciate her efforts very much.

Alumni

The alumni (known as Awa) comprises ex-residents of Cheshire Home Bangalore. Their objective is to help fellow members and network among themselves to the advantage of one another.

Our Networks

DNA (Disability Network Alliance): Cheshire Homes India, Bangalore is a member of DNA (a federation of NGOs working in the field of disabilities in Karnataka).

RAWWD NGO (Rehabilitation Aids Workshop by Women with Disability): We provide space for RAWWD who make assistive devices for physically challenged individuals. We also use their support for customized aids for our residents.

Sheila Kothavala Institute for the Deaf: They run a school for hearing-impaired children. Some of these children belong to lower-income groups and cannot afford lodging and food. This is where Cheshire Homes supports these children.

The Seventh Day Adventist School (SDA): Our Physically Challenged (PC) children attend this mainstream school. The school and Cheshire Homes have worked together to build an environmental-friendly place for them to study.

Association of People with Disabilities (APD): We are also associated with APD for testing procurement of hearing aids at subsidized rates.

Cheshire Homes India National Council: This is a federation of all Cheshire Homes in India. We meet annually to share our progress and activities.
